                  Energy Audits

                  AUDITS-

If you feel you know what your home or business needs in the way of insulation or a new HVAC system or new windows and you would just like a representative to come out and provide an estimate for adding or replacing one or all of those items then please feel free to call and set up an appointment for us to visit your home or business.

We can provide you with a written cost proposal at no charge.

If you aren’t really sure what you need, but your home is just cold, then we are still happy to come take a look and see what we think might help rectify the problem, and not charge you anything.

However, most of the time when a person is considering upgrading the energy efficiency of their building, an assessment (or audit) is the wisest starting point. There are a couple of reasons for this.

The most current way of looking at energy conservation, and the way most of the energy incentive programs are geared, is the “Whole House Concept”. This means looking at the energy needs and performance of the building as a whole instead of it's individual parts. Looking at the structure and it’s equipment (or usually lack of) and forming a plan to bring it up to current standards all at once insures that all the added components are sized to work together and with the effects of the others taken into account. This way a furnace can be sized correctly knowing that insulation will be added to the walls and attic, and that new dual pane windows may be also added, instead of the furnace sized for a home without any insulation and single pane glass.  The way this is accomplished is with a home energy assessment.

The cost  varies, there are rebate programs and the rebate amounts are different in different Counties. We try to stick to the rebate amount. So you’ll have to pay for the assessment when it is done but you should receive the entire amount back in the form of a rebate check from one of the organizations promoting energy efficiency in your County. Call for that rate in your County.

The assessment takes two people about 3 hours onsite and involves pressure testing your HVAC ducts, pressure testing your whole house for air infiltration, a full appliance combustion safety test for any gas fired appliances, draft test for gas appliances, drawing a full footprint of the home with all windows and doors noted, taking detailed information on all appliances, information on all lighting, and of course information on all heating and cooling systems and their duct work, and all insulation levels.

This is taken back to the office and condensed and run thru a computer program that builds a model of your home. The program subjects your model home to all the weather conditions for every hour of every day of a full year (from it’s weather library) to see how efficient (or inefficient) it is. It then adds improvements to upgrade your home and ranks those improvements in order of cost effectiveness (the order you should consider doing them in), and issues a 10-12-page report. This report will also determine which of the many programs you may be eligible for and how much your rebates might be for installing certain upgrades. As we said this is usually covered by a rebate, call us for an appointment; it’s information that’s valuable.
